It all starts with identifying GOALS - Strategic Goals
What is your long-term vision for the company? Do you have a 5-Year Strategic Plan? Are you chasing customers? Are your customers looking for you? It all starts with the customer. What does the customer want? It does not start with "this is what we sell; now, how do we find the customer". Marketing focuses on the needs of the customer. Successful companies do not look to sell their products or services, but rather to identify customer needs and wants, and then set about to design products and services to satisfy them.
"Strategic planning ... is analytical thinking and commitment of resources to action ... making present entrepreneurial decisions systematically ... organizing systematically the efforts needed to carry (out) these decisions, and measuring the results of these decisions against the expectations through organized, systematic feedback." Peter F. Drucker, Managing in a Time of Great Change Understand your customers. Focus on products and services that satisfy their needs and wants. As Peter F. Drucker once said: "Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things." Develop strategies and plans to market to identified target markets. Optimize operations and distribution to meet the demand. Analyze the capital and resources required to deliver effective price points that generate profitable revenue streams. |

Now that you have the long-range plan, effective annual plans must be designed and implemented to attain those goals. All disciplines and business units must work in unison to remain focused on the goals.
" ...Planning is an intellectual exercise ... But until it becomes actual work, you have done nothing. Strategies, on the other hand, are action-focused ... strategies are not something you hope for; strategies are something you work for." Peter F.
